Summers Here...Where is the Zarex?

My quest for Zarex Drink Syrup continues...

Just as I was getting ready to send another email to the folks at HomeTown-Treats, they sent me an email assuring me they were still working on trying to aquire the stuff.

So for the moment I am sitting on my hands anxiously awaiting word that they can find it, stock it, and send some to me.

You guys will be the second people to know.  I will have to let my wife know first and get permission to use the credit card to get myself some first.

I will continue to keep you advised.

In the meanwhile...be sure to check them out.  You may just find some other wonder snack from the area where you grew up.  Just be sure to use the dash "-" in the web address or you'll end up at some crappy website trying to ride on their coat tails.

To answer your next obvious question...No, I don't get paid to sing their praises.  I just think they have a wonderful idea.

I need Zarex too. My 11 year old son wants to try it. When I was a kid my Mom would make pink lemonade and add Zarex to it. It was the best.

Wikpedia states that the company that makes Zarex is still in business. It is: One Pie Canning Co. W Paris, Maine 04289. Bring on the Zarex!!

Called One Pie Canning. They said they only distribute through Hannaford Supermarkets in New England. Their phone number is 800-213-9040. Only problem, they won't ship. If you live nearby you are in luck.

I live in New England and not far from a Hannafords, I will scope it out and see what it cost, etc etc

I was told by the distributor that it is also carried at Demoula's Market Basket in the Boston area. I found the Fruit Punch flavor (not as good as the Raspberry) version at the Stop & Shop on Nantcucket in August 2006

I was reading an ad that appeared in The Complete New Yorker from an issue published on 6/5/1926 that featured a non-alcoholic fruit champagne from the Za-Rex Company from Boston! With Prohibition still in effect there was a push on for wine type of treats that were actually sold in cases of a dozen bottles apparently. I too remember ZaRex when I grew up in the Fifties, and I thought that you might like to know aboutn this earlier push for what must be the heirloom product. in fact, I was so impressed that I actgually printed the ad from the New Yorker collection.

try the Vermont Store they carry ZAREX

I just chatted online with a Vermont Country Store rep, and she said Zarex is not made in lemon-lime. More likely they don't carry it or are out. Shaws in Warwick, Rhode Island said they carried Zarex until a couple of years ago and that one employee has seen it at WalMart (!) I will try them tomorrow. Family is in Warwick, and might buy and ship it if I can find it. The quest continues!

local Market Basket in Londonderry NH has carried it all summer (and still has the fruit punch) but has been out of the raspberry for a couple weeks. we use it to make Raspberry Lime Rickeys. so i'm on the same hunt you are. :)
